The Chiawana Water Trail Map focuses on paddling along the left bank (Franklin Co. and Pasco) of the Columbia. The Chiawana Water Trail has three sections that individually make for easy day paddles. These are from Ringold to Selph Landing, from Selph Landing to Chiawana Park and Chiawana to Sacagawea Park. The Tapteal Trail on the Yakima is also included.
To use the map, click on the link below and the map will appear in a new tab. To learn more about a given site, click on the site symbol and a pop-up will appear that provides: the Site Name, River Mile, a brief description, a link to an extended description, a link to an external web site such as from the WDFW and a photo. The map key can be used to hide/show parts of the map. Most useful is to turn off the Google Satellite Map to see the underlying Street Map.
Generally speaking the Franklin/Pasco side of the river is on the inside bend of the Columbia River through the Tri-Cities. It offers very calm paddling provided the wind is not blowing hard. Sites such as Chiawana Park offer easy in and out paddling where it is safe to just play around or practice with new equipment or try out skills. Except for the upper reaches and during the June high water flow, it is quite feasible to paddle back upstream or better yet start your trip with an upstream paddle and enjoy the float back to your put-in.
