Tapteal Water Trail

The Tapteal Trail on the Yakima was created by Tapteal Greenway and they have a rudimentary map on their site. The link below leads to a more detailed version created by Save Our Shoreline. To use the map, click on the link below and the map will appear in a new tab. To learn more about a given site, click on the site symbol and a pop-up will appear that provides: the Site Name, River Mile, a brief description, a link to an extended description, a link to an external web site such as from the WDFW and a photo. The map key can be used to hide/show parts of the map. Most useful is to turn off the Google Satellite Map to see the underlying Street Map.

The Yakima offers two main section above and below Wanawish Dam at Horn Rapids. Do not attempt to go over the dam. Recently even the Benton County Fire District 2 power boat was caught in the back wash. Don’t worry, it’s easy to avoid. Details are included in the map. The Yakima also can be difficult paddling in late summer due to over growth of Stargrass. Stargrass is a native species that opportunistically took over the Yakima when major efforts to control agricultural and dairy waste were successful.
